The ACGME-accredited integrated General Surgery Residency Program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente (Fontana) provides an excellent surgical educational experience. The objective is to provide residents with first-hand experience managing surgical patients in a variety of surgical areas. The intent is to develop skills in surgical diagnosis, pre- and post-operative patient management, and to begin the development of technical skills by first-hand operative experience. Daily activities involve evaluating patients in an ambulatory setting, managing an inpatient bed service, and performing and assisting in the operating room, including ambulatory surgery. These activities are supplemented by various learning activities, M&M; case conferences in all specialty areas, radiology and pathology conferences.

The program is a collaborative effort between ARMC and Kaiser Permanente, Fontana. The program has an affiliation with Loma Linda University Medical Center. The residency program is five years in length, beginning with the PGY1 level. Upon completion of the program, the resident will have received experience in all aspects of general surgery, including that of burn and trauma. The resident will receive experience in inpatient and outpatient care of both elective and emergent problems. The outpatient clinic experience is also quite varied, with specialty clinics in burn and breast.
